Circumventing Compressor’s convoluted “set destination” process

Challenge: Compressor’s convoluted “set destination” process
Solution: Use aliases to dupe Compressor

I’ve always been frustrated by the convoluted process of specifying the chosen destination, especially when you are trying to replicate a folder structure (from an external hard drive to a server for instance).

This can be circumvented by making aliases of the quicktimes into the folders you wish them to be exported to. Then you can drag them into a Compressor batch, apply your settings, leave the default “source” destination, and voila! Compressor will export the quicktimes to the alias location. Please note that this doesn’t work if you drop the aliases to the compressor icon on the dock – you need to drag them to an actual batch.
